Established in accordance with Indiana Code (IC 36-4-9-8), the Board of Public Works and Safety serves as the executive administrative body for the City of New Castle. Working along with municipal department heads, the Board oversees public infrastructure, public safety operations, and official city business.
Board Responsibilities & Oversight
Public Safety Operations: Oversees municipal law enforcement (Police) and fire protection services.
Public Works & Infrastructure: Manages city streets, sanitation, transportation, sewers, and city utilities.
City Business & Operations: Addresses contractual agreements that bind the city, street closures, and the use of city facilities.
Board Structure & Governance
Membership: The Board consists of three members—the Mayor and two city residents appointed by the Mayor. Appointees are city residents who may concurrently hold other public appointments or elected offices.
Voting: Official actions and motions conducted during public meetings require a majority vote for approval.

Meeting Schedule: Held on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month at 10:00 AM.
