Historic Preservation

New Castle Historic Preservation Commission (NCHPC)

The New Castle Historic Preservation Commission (NCHPC) is dedicated to preserving and protecting the rich architectural heritage and historic character of the City of New Castle. The Commission oversees renovation, demolition, and new construction within designated local Historic Districts and Phase One Conservation Districts.

Certificates of Appropriateness (COA)

Property owners within a historic district must obtain a Certificate of Appropriateness (COA) prior to beginning exterior renovation, new construction, or demolition projects. All approved projects must display their issued Certificate on-site for the duration of the work.

Meeting Schedule & Location

The NCHPC meets regularly to review project applications and discuss local preservation efforts. All meetings are open to the public.
